How long does a pair of compression stockings last?
A product sheet may promise comfort and say nothing about how long a pair holds up. The desk found one source line on lifespan and reads it as written.
The lifespan line from Vein Directory
The named source, Vein Directory, states: "Each pair typically lasts for six months to a year, although this may vary. Hand washing them may help to maintain their elasticity and thus their service life."
Read literally, a pair typically lasts six months to a year. That range comes with a qualifier, "although this may vary", so it is a typical span and not a guarantee.
What the wording leaves open
The line gives no wearing schedule, no number of washes and no sign that a pair is finished. "Typically" and "may vary" both leave room for your pair to fall outside the range. The washing sentence is also hedged: hand washing "may help", which is not a promise.
The line does not say whether it applies to every pair or only to some. The Vein Directory guide holds the full text, and the plastic surgery society's recovery page is another place to see how instructions after treatment are worded.
What to ask before you buy
- Does the product sheet state a replacement interval, and does it match the source's range?
- What washing instructions come with this pair?
- Is there a return or replacement policy, and what does it cover?
Keep the receipt and the care label together.
The desk's note
A typical lifespan is not your pair's lifespan. If your stockings in Oak Lawn feel looser than they did when new, that is a question for whoever fitted them.
