When are venous ultrasound results ready?
An order for an ultrasound ends at the exam, and the next question is when the answer comes back. The published wording on timing has two sentences, and each deserves its own reading.
What the first sentence promises
Three parts of the first sentence matter: "usually", "within 24 hours", and the weekday range that closes it. Here is the full wording, as my.clevelandclinic.org writes it: "The results of your ultrasound are usually available within 24 hours after your test, Monday through Friday."
Read in order, "usually" means the time is not guaranteed. "Within 24 hours" is a ceiling and not a fixed moment. The closing range names the days the clause covers.
What the second sentence adds
The same source continues: "Your ordering physician will discuss the test results with you." That names who talks to you, and it is the ordering physician. It does not say how, whether by phone, in person, or through a portal.
What the wording leaves open
The passage does not say what applies to a test taken on a weekend, or on any day the closing range leaves out. It does not say what "usually" excludes, or what to do when the 24 hours pass without word.
What to ask before you leave
Ask who will contact you and by what method. Ask which day you should expect to hear from them, and who to call if that day passes. Ask whether the report you receive is the same document the physician reads.
If the order names a condition, these pages explain the terms: deep vein thrombosis and varicose veins and their evaluation.
What the paperwork cannot tell you
A stated window cannot tell a reader in Oak Lawn what their own result says. Only the physician who ordered the test can explain it.
