Who should not wear compression stockings?
Some product sheets list who should not use a product, and some bury it. The desk read one source sentence on that and quotes it here.
The exclusion sentence
The named source, Vein Directory, says: "Talk to your doctor for specifics, but generally speaking, diabetics, individuals who smoke and those with a decreased blood supply in the legs are not considered good candidates and should not wear compression stockings."
Read literally, three groups are named: diabetics, individuals who smoke, and those with a decreased blood supply in the legs. The sentence says they "are not considered good candidates".
What the wording leaves open
The sentence opens with "generally speaking", so it is a general rule and not an absolute one. It begins by sending you to your doctor for specifics. It does not say how severe a condition has to be to count, and it does not name any alternative for the groups it lists.
It is also one sentence from one guide. The full Vein Directory guide sits around it, and the recovery guide and the plastic surgery society's recovery page show how other instructions are worded. If your paperwork mentions chronic venous insufficiency, that page can help you check the term.
What to ask before you sign or book
- Do any of the groups in that sentence apply to me?
- If one does, who decides whether I wear stockings, and what is the plan instead?
- Where does my order record that decision?
The desk's note
A general sentence cannot clear you or exclude you. Your own history decides that, so bring it to your visit in Oak Lawn.
